UK Universities Visit 2012

IMG_2430_-_150For the fourth consecutive year, several of our year 12 students were given the opportunity to visit a variety of universities in the United Kingdom. During the six day trip, the group enjoyed full day visits to the University of the West of England in Bristol and Bath Spa University in Bath. During the visits they were given presentations by admissions tutors and students, tours of the campuses and much more. These visits were then followed up with in depth feedback sessions at the Folly Farm Centre where the group stayed during the first half of the visit.

In addition to the academic nature of the tour, the group were given the opportunity demonstrate their teamwork, communication and money managing skills which will be useful when they begin the International Award and when they move on to university. Divided into two groups, the students were given a budget and required to plan and prepare an evening meal and breakfast for the whole group. This activity provided them with a glimpse of student life and was a great deal of fun too.

In London, all the students made maximum use of their pre-arranged appointments and were able to chat with admissions tutors and tour at least three institutions which interested them. Although the schedule was frenetic, they have learnt a considerable amount about what life as a student is like in the United Kingdom and, therefore, are in a much better position to make a more informed decision in the future.
