Y7-Y13 Computer Science

Computer-ScienceDear parents: I am pleased to inform you that my classes this year incorporate responsible use of technology, including web-based educational tools.

I hope that we all can agree that each student's unique educational experience should include responsible resource sharing, innovation and communication. This year, students in my classes and you, their parents, will have access to course calendars, assignments, and threaded discussions, all via Edmodo.

Edmodo is private and secured, requiring students to use their own password and username. Parents are encouraged to access this site using their son or daughter's password and username once accounts have been set up, or to create their own parents account following step by step instructions on the website. The site is simple to use and I'm convinced that it will help everyone stay on track when it comes to assignments and due dates. In this respect, Edmodo "replaces" the homework diary as the way of communicating information between the Computer Science teacher and parents (and vice versa) regarding students academic progress. Should you have no access to Edmodo from home please let me know as soon as possible.

Furthermore, all the marks for this subject will be exclusively published on Edmodo, as well as assignments which have not been handed in and other aspects related to assessment. Consequently, you will be able to monitor your child's progress in Computer Science from the comfort of your own home.

The information highway is an incredibly exciting technology, but with access to this educational opportunity also comes responsibility. We expect students to act in a respectful, responsible and legal manner on the network, as they do in any school activity.

Please investigate the program at http://www.edmodo.com/ using your son or daughter's password and username, or creating your own parents account. Edmodo offers an application for both Iphone and Android devices too. If you have any questions on how to use Edmodo, please ask your child for assistance or consult the user guide (available in Spanish and English) published on the web and in your child's working group.

Thank you for your cooperation,

Iván López y Daniel Donoghue
