S4 Work Experience

Dear Parents of S4 students: we would like to present to you and to your son/daughter the Work Experience Program for S4 students at Canterbury School.

This takes place at the end of each academic year, and the school has been running this program for the last 4 years. It has always been a successful and fruitful experience for the student. Given the fact that the program involves a somewhat long preparation, we aim at starting the process with this letter.

This program aims at making the students aware of the world of labor as it is today. In practical terms this means that the student will have to do voluntary work in a firm chosen and the student will search for an appropriate company where they will take part in voluntary work. This type of initiatives is highly valued by UK, international, and Spanish universities.

The program will start on FRIDAY 25 May and will finish on WEDNESDAY 13 June. Most IGCSE exams will have been finished (if any student has exams pending these are the priority) and will include writing and presenting a final report to reflect on the experience. The firm that accepts the student and the school sign a written agreement by which the student will carry out the tasks described in the agreement. Needless to say, the school will not sign any agreement with firms that cannot guarantee the student's safety even if the student is covered by the school insurance.

During January students will be instructed on the steps to take and will be given deadlines to present to us an offer from a form to do voluntary work. Once this offer has been presented the documentation (written agreement and evaluation pack) will be given to the student.

All S4 students are expected to take part in school activities (of which this program is one) until 15 June included. Those students who do not take part in this Work Experience Program will be engaged in a similar work experience within the different academic departments in the school.

Should you have any doubts about this program please do not hesitate to contact me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or via appointment through the Main Office.

Many thanks for your cooperation,
