Students Work

K3 have been completing different activities related to Canary Day this week. One of the activities was to look at Canarian picture postcards and sketch them. The results were fantastic.

Last week the A level art students completed their exam. The AS spent 5 hours working on their final pieces and The A2 spent 15 hours working on theirs. The students, Pedro Grimaldi, Anna Alonso, Carla Diaz , Anjna, Simon Casas and Tania Pedormo worked extremely hard and should all be very proud of their final pieces. Some of the students are continuing with their art next year while others are moving on to study other things but whatever they are doing we wish them all the best in the future and fingers crossed for some good grades this summer.

During term 2 S1 students have worked on fruit sculptures. First they did lots of drawings of fruit and then they designed a sculpture based on their observation drawings. The students used different media to show to the examiner what they have learned during the 2 year course. The exam counts for 50% of the grade while the coursework is also 50%, so it is important that they work hard throughout the 2 years. Well done to all the students and good luck with the results.

S1 students at The Canterbury School have been studying “Self Portraits”. They have looked at the early Graeco-Roman Egyptian Mummy Paintings c200AD. These are paintings created with encaustic paint (wax and pigment) on wood. The portraits were attached to mummies so that the person’s soul would exist in the after-life. If the painting looked like the person then they would exist for ever more! The paintings were wrapped with strips of sugar paper to look like the bandages of the mummies.

Mrs Clarke sent these S1 portraits to the British Museum with an email, explaining that they had been inspired ...

Our S2 pupils have been investigating Cubism. The drawings in this gallery are made up of preliminary sketches with which the pupils have begun to paint a cubist portrait. To make the portraits the pupils started from a photocopy which they cut up, and then with the help of a mirror to give three distinct viewpoints, made a careful collage. The pupils found the whole exercise entertaining and amusing.
