Everyone, including the teachers enjoyed sampling the delicious cakes! The money will be divided between San Juan de Dios, Caritas and the children we support in Kenya.

On Wednesday 22nd November , the older pupils in the Maspalomas Primary School visited the Columbus Musuem in Vegeta in Las Palmas. This term they are learning about Christopher Columbus amongst other important men of the past and seeing where Columbus actually visited the Governor of the Island on his trip to America brings their classroom studies to life. On Thursday 9th November was a special day. 4th Grade went on a school trip to Osorio. Osorio is a farmland in the north of Gran Canaria. It is called Osorio because of the name of its owner. Osorio was a man that liked to travel a lot around the world. He brought plants and flowers from all the different places he visited and planted them in Osorio.
In Osorio, we saw the Romantic Garden. Osorio made it because he loved a woman and he wanted to show her how much he loved her by making a garden in the shape of a heart. In the Osorio farmyard, we ...

We’re busy practising the Christmas carols for our carol concerts this year. To help the children practise at home we’ve put some of the carols and the words on the web page. We hope both parents and children have lots of fun singing along to the music!

4ª performed their class assembly on the 17th of November, in front of the whole junior school. The class performed a children’s science programme, with the human body as the theme, involving mad scientists, miniature children injected into another child’s body, a girl with no bones and a group of dancing skeletons!
The actors and dancers performed tremendously well, and the other children seemed to enjoy it very much, judging by the laughter! Well done 4A!

On Wednesday 22nd November, K3 and P1 from the Maspalomas Dept. spent a wonderful day at the Elder Museum. The youngest pupils enjoyed themselves in the ‘Perinola’, a fascinating room where children learn so much science through playing with enormous soap bubbles, magic mirrors and the animal wall display. They also had great fun experiencing what it feels like to be in a real aeroplane cockpit. Thanks again to all our parents for their great help.

The Canterbury School has a programme of studies based on the British National Curriculum. Pupils in British Schools normally take externally assessed examinations during the May and June of their Year 11 (S4) studies; these examinations can be taken in a selection of subjects as the British system allows for such flexibility. Canterbury pupils who wish to validate their British studies and obtain the Spanish “Graduado en Educación Secundaria” need grades “A”, “B” or “C” in four subjects for validation, two of which must be Spanish, English, Maths or Science.

The pupils enjoyed a bright and sunny day and our more adventurous teachers even dared to slither down the slides and the zip-line. Once again we would like to thank parents for their collaboration to make the day such a success.

On Tuesday, October 3rd, parents were invited to listen to a talk in the Infant Department on ‘Jolly Phonics’, a systematic structured phonetics system we use in K2, K3 and P1. During the meeting, the system was explained to the parents as it involves their cooperation in practicing the sounds and movements with their children when they are at home.
We hope that parents found the talk interesting and informative as the method provides a lively and amusing educational tool and encourages school – home cooperation which is fundamental for our children’s learning.

S4 is the final year of obligatory schooling, and the evaluations done by your son/daughter will be very important and will to a great extent determine their choices for future study. As an international school operating in Spain, the assessment of S4 involves elements of both the British education system, the IGCSE examinations, and the Spanish education system. We have attached a summary of the main aspects of S4.
