We have heard about the terrible tragedy that happened to Ivan who was an ex-pupil of ours. We wish to say how very sorry we are about the whole sad affair and show our support to his family and friends at such a difficult moment for them. The whole school held a sorrowful minute’s silence in remembrance of a youth who was extremely popular and respected during the time he was a pupil here. We hope that justice prevails and that those guilty of this horrendous crime are suitably punished for what they did. Wherever you are now Ivan, we will always remember you in our hearts.
In order to raise money for charity, the children in P4 will be running a cake stall on Thursday 11th and Friday 12th December. This will take place during playtime (10:30 – 11:00). The 4th grade pupils, will be responsible for running the stall and will be selling all sorts of cakes and biscuits for a maximum price of 1,00 €uro. The money collected will go to the charities “San Juan de Dios” and Cáritas.
The representative from Leo Leo will be coming to school to talk to the children about reading and about the Leo Leo magazines during the Spanish classes. The reason we do this is to stimulate the children’s interest in reading. However, if there is any parent who does not wish their child to be present during this visit (9th, 10th and 11th) please let Miss Lindsay know and she will make alternative arrangements for them. If any parent wishes to be present during this talk, please get in touch with the school.
Hello and greetings from Gran Canaria. The Year Two pupils at Canterbury Primary School have been doing lots of work about Barnaby Bear. Barnaby is a bear who likes travelling and has adventures all over the world. He has even got his own passport!! As part of Year Two’s work each pupil has made their own paper Barnaby and travel journal and posted him off to see the world! Upon his return, the pupils will map his travels and share their journals with their classmates and the rest of the school.

The
International Award
, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award equivalent, is an exciting self-development programme available to all students in S6 following the British route. It is designed to equip students with life skills to make a difference to themselves, their communities and the world. In addition the concept is one of individual challenge designed to encourage students to develop into responsible, active citizens who will positively contribute towards society. It presents a balanced, non-competitive and enjoyable programme of voluntary and organised activities which encourage personal discovery and growth, self-reliance, perseverance, responsibility and service to the community. The Award challenges attitudes, judgements and values and allows for thought provoking discussion and action centred on commitment, loyalty, empowerment, leadership and learning. It also promotes an ability to plan and work as a group; to fund-raise (or -loose); to learn new languages and customs; and, appreciate the value of physical risk and benefit involved.
