Maspalomas Welcome letter.

Dear parents,
Welcome back ! Firstly , I would like to thank you for the confidence you have placed in our school and for your continued support. I hope you have enjoyed your holidays and I would also like to welcome those parents and children who are new to the school this year, and extend a warm welcome to our new teachers: Miss Celia teacher K2, Miss Miranda teacher P3, Miss Paula teacher P5, Mister Nathan teacher K3
To ensure that the school runs smoothly and with your children´s well being in mind, we would like to inform you of the school rules:

1. Everything related to the payment of school fees, changes on the enrolment sheet (telephone number, address…) should be dealt with through the school secretary. Tindaya´s office hours are Monday to Friday 08.00-16.00. Everything relating to the transport service ( routes, fees, times etc) should be directed to the Amanda Bus Company telephone: 928.22.48.38. You can also obtain all the relevant information concerning the next academic year; fees, school uniform, books etc… on our web site http://www.canterburyschool.com

2. The teachers and my self are available for parents meetings. To arrange an appointment time we would ask you to contact the office. We request that parents do not interrupt classes during the day.

3. We ask that those parents who bring their children to school by car respect the parking zone for the school bus in order to avoid any danger to the children. In the morning, the main school gate will be open from 08.00 and will close at 8.45. In the afternoon the gate will be open at 15.15 and close at 16.00.

4. The large playground is the place where the children from K2-P5 will meet and line up in the morning 08.00-8.30, please note that there will not be a teacher on duty before this time (8.00). The children from k1 will meet up on the infant playground. At the end of the day (15.30) The children form K3-P5 will exit from the large playground while the children from K1+k2 will wait to be collected on the infant playground. If your child is going home with someone other than a parent we ask that you inform the school in writing or via the secretary in advance. As we are replanting the grassed areas we ask that children do not play on these areas or in the car park at 15.30 after school.

5. The school day is from 8.30-15.30 we would like to insist on the importance of your child commencing classes at the established time. Arriving late not only interrupts the routine and dynamic of the class, the teachers and the other students, but also has a negative effect on the education of your child.

6. If your child is bringing a snack to school, we would suggest fresh food in order to promote a healthy diet. For safety reasons children are not allowed to bring glass bottles. Chewing of gum and sunflowers seeds are also prohibited.

7. Friday is the only day on which children may bring a toy to school. Please abstain from sending hard balls that are not made of sponge. Also, if your child is bringing a PSP/game/Nintendo please ensure that the game are age appropriate.

8. Children should come dressed in their P:E. uniform until further notice. The children in K1 will wear their P.E. uniform all year. The children´s clothes should be labeled or marked with their names in order to avoid confusion.

9. We would like to remind you that the children in k1+k2 should always have a change of clothes in their bag. Please make sure that the children´s bags are small and without wheels.

10. There will be P.E. classes throughout the year. On these days the children from k1-k3 are obliged to come to school dressed in their P.E. uniforms. Children form P1-P5 will change in the classroom. They should therefore come dressed in their school uniform and bring their P.E. kits in a bag. The P.E. calendar is:

K1: Tuesday and Thursday.
K2: Tuesday and Thursday.
K3: Monday and Friday.
P1: Tuesday and Thursday.
P2: Wednesday and Friday.
P3: Tuesday and Friday.
P4: Monday and Wednesday.
P5: Monday and Wednesday.

11. Children from P1-P5 should bring their own pencil cases/ resources to school with them daily. This includes: pencils, coloured pencils, felt pens, glue sticks, scissors, rulers, rubbers and sharpeners. Dictionaries and Spanish books should be clearly labelled with the children names.
12. It would be imprudent for the children to be in possession of any type of medication therefore if your child needs to take any medicine during school hours, please inform the secretary in writing how and when the medicine should be administered.
13. We are quite willing to hand out invitations or gifts regarding children´s birthdays but we ask that the parents do not send birthday cakes or bottles of drinks for the teachers to serve out.
14. Due to the high temperatures and close contact of the children when they are playing , there exists the risk of children catching headlice. I would like to take this opportunity to remind parents that it would be prudent to check your children´s hair at least once a week and take the necessary measures to eliminate any parasites found.

We hope that you have a good start to the year and should you have any queries or worries, please do no hesitate to contact us. We will shortly be sending an annual plan and work programme home with your child.
Yours sincerely,
Jennifer Cavallin
