El próximo viernes 25 de junio, en el Centro Insular de Deportes (Avda. Marítima) a las 19.00 horas, la Federación de Baloncesto de Gran Canaria realizará la Entrega de Premios de la Temporada 2009-2010. Están invitados todos los padres, familiares y amigos. Los chicos/as han de estar presentes a las 18.45 horas dentro del Centro Insular de Deportes.
Another success for the club: our boys’ team is Champion of Gran Canaria. A magnificent ending to a glorious season. A gripping junior play off between Canterbury Lions and the Caja de Gran Canaria with a final victory for the Lions.
Alter an excellent performance in the Spanish Championship our girls ’ infantil’ team came ninth in the whole of Spain. Not once was the team outclassed in any of the matches as the standard was very even and our girls finished in a magnificent ninth position. An historical moment for Canterbury as this is the first time we have reached a Spanish final, competing against the big Basketball Clubs and forming part of the select TOP TEN. Congratulations to you all for having performed so well. What a fantastic example for our cubs!
From 11.00 onwards this Saturday, 26th June, we will be celebrating the end of a fantastic season with our annual barbecue.
Our Lion cubs have cut their teeth! As n epilogue to what we can only call the most memorable season in the history of the club, our boys and girls pre-minibasket teams are champions of Gran Canaria after an excellent final four play-off in which they beat all their opponents soundly. Our heartiest congratulations to all and especially to parents and trainers for their effort and support.
Nuestro equipo de baloncesto Infantil Femenino Canterbury Lions ha cosechado un resultado histórico para nuestro club, siendo el primero que se clasifica para una fase final del campeonato de España , que este año se celebra en Zaragoza. Desde aquí nuestra mas cordial enhorabuena por ser las primeras en conseguirlo, iniciando el camino a seguir para el resto de nuestros cachorros.
Last Friday 21 may, some students from the Secondary section took part in the atlhetics competition organised by the English-speaking schools of the island (ESCIS) in the Martin Freire Sports Complex. Our school won in both boys and girls and in the overall ranking. We would like to congratulate all those students who made this come true. Our precadetes (S3) have taken part in the Cadete League /(S4) this season and have developed into GIANT KILLERS...
Continuando con la magnifica trayectoria en comportamiento y resultados del club Lions este año, nuestras chicas (S1) han terminado Subcampeonas de Canarias tras una brillante temporada....
Excellent organisation and atmosphere in the Nuryana Preminibasket Tournament where out P5 boys were procliamed UNBEATEN CHAMPIONS! Great defence tactics and court play from our LIONS: they were just unbeatable. They bulldozed their way through each of their matches plastering every opponent by at least twenty points...
Both the boys and girls ‘Infantile’ basket ball teams played at an extremely high level during the Infantile Canarian Championships. The boys finished in first place and the girls in second after two hard fought final matches . Consequently both teams have classified to represent the Canarian Autonomic Region in the Autonomic Championships and will represent the Canary Islands in the following round due to take place in Andalucia In the very near future. What an achievement for the club! Congratulations to you all!!

In a magical evening our 'cadete' and 'infantil' teams both managed to classify for the Canarian Championship as, after a splendid performance by all players from both schools, the Canterbury teams succeeded in beating Hidelberg on their baskball court. The Lions fought tooth and nail throughout the whole evening and had marvellous support from family members and fans cheering them on from their seats. Congratulations to you all and a special clap on the back to our pre-cadete players in the team who succeeded against players a year older.
Our boys minibasket team were champions of the sixth Canterbury Lions Tournament which has taken place over the last four days. The level of all the competing teams was high and the stands packed with their supporters whom we would like to congratulate on the competitive but sporting and respectful atmosphereof they created.The matches have been fought fiercely and the outstandingly high level of the players from all teams is a promise of future excellence. Our warmest thanks to all visiting teams and their supporters for their contribution to making this such a great annual event.
On wednesday 27th January the first match in the ACB Schools Competition will take place at the San Jose de la Vega sports pavillion. and we hope that many of our pupils, friends and basketball teams fans will be there to cheer on. the Canterbury School teams. Our first boys' match will be against the IES Santa Isablel de Hungria but as there is only one other school which has a girls team, our Lionesses wil play the final on Tuesday.9th February. During the month of August the selection process for the U-13 Spanish Basketball Team took place in Palma de Mallorca. Two of our players ,Isabel and Alberto, were chosen to form part of the national teams: Isabel, who usually plays base, was in fact nominated Captain of the girls team.... |
